Discover How To Implement Smart Goals Via Google Analytics

What are Smart Goals?

A web search engine is a system that is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web. The search results are generally presented in a line of results often referred to as search engine results pages (SERPs).

Smart goals help identify visits that are more likely to convert. It utilizes machine learning to examine a wide array of signals about website visits. This enables businesses to recognize those visits that are most likely to provide a conversion. Every individual visit is assigned a score with the most valuable visits being translated into Smart Goals. There are a number of factors that determine the score to be assigned to each visit that includes:

• The length of the session
• Number of pages viewed or browsed during the session
• Where the customer is
• The device used to access pages
• The browser used to access the pages

How to initiate smart goals?

Step 1: Activate smart goals in Google Analytics

To kick off Smart Goals within Google Analytics, all you have to do is go to the Admin section of your Analytics account, access Goals under the view heading, and click + NEW GOAL. Select Smart Goal and create a name for your Smart Goal.

Step 2: Import smart goals in Google AdWords

Just like any other goal within Google analytics, smart goals can be imported into AdWords. This way more responsive and valuable optimizations can occur.

Step 3: Optimizing with Smart Goals in AdWords

The ability to measure conversions in an account is a prerequisite for optimizing around a target cost per acquisition. After importing Smart Goals into AdWords, let Smart Goals run for a few weeks to accumulate sufficient data.

Once sufficient data is collected, it is time to start to divide the cost of your ads with the number of Smart Goals you have successfully achieved. The resulting figure is your cost per acquisition or CPA. The CPA can be adjusted to match with your project goals and objectives.

However, smart goals do not come without their share of drawbacks.

• They cannot be configured or customized.
• You can only have one Smart Goal per view.
• Smart Goals are currently only available for website views and cannot be used for mobile app views which major disadvantage in today’s time.
• They are not available for views that receive more than 1 million hits per day.
